Bob’s opening salvo on the path to re-election 2013. He’s been a good mayor, under significant duress (after the earthquake there was a chorus of “Knightood!” People being fickle flip-flops, some now hate him). Some glitches: communication, across the table relationships, connect-ability. But this is great – a feisty fight back and defending his corner after all the scuttlebutt and undermining he’s had from cowards who leak, go public and run their politics in the media, not in the grist of hard work behind-the-scenes, which Bob is good at but gets little praise for.
Various names are batting about for the mayoralty: Lab. MP Lianne Dalziel (although she’s denied it); Tim Carter (nephew of David Carter and a first term councillor); a return of Garry Moore (groan), among others. Bob has a strong brand (he simply has BOB on his hoardings, everyone knows who that is) and with a divided field will be hard to beat, but has organised detractors.
