Over at the read-worthy The Paepae, Pete opines,
Joe Karam is default-set to a rigid adversarial mindset. Compensation or otherwise for anyone is entirely at the discretion of the Cabinet. Like the case, Karam now obsesses about ‘process,’ when there is no process or rule about this. ’Crusher’ Collins obviously feels the Binnie report is flawed (with good reason from what I’ve read). She wants a review (reasonable I would have thought) and then Cabinet will decide. But in Karam-Bain land this is a conspiracy against David’s ‘innocence’ and ‘entitlement’ to compensation. Let’s remember, Joe stands to gain here so is hardly objective. Karam is a player (an ex AB) and plays one side (hard).
I think there is a snowflake’s chance in Sydney of Cabinet paying out. It is simply not politically expedient (the population is divided on this and half the electorate would be outraged. That is bush fire country for MPs). And David Bain has in no way been found “innocent.” That is not what the Privy Council found. ~ J.
