McCoskrie vs Latta: Same Sex Marriage Debate

Same Sex Marriage Debate

Click here to watch the ten min. video:  http://tvnz.co.nz/breakfast-news/nigel-latta-and-bob-mccoskrie-debate-marriage-equality-video-5264957

Nigel Latta comes across like a schoolboy in this, with silly gesticulations and face pulling, while Bob McCoskrie argues with integrity and respect.

Latta argues that “marriage culture has constantly changed” as some sort of justification that we should change “marriage” now. So, does he mean we should accept polygamy? Why discriminate?

Then Latta discriminates by insisting on “gentleman’s rules.” Is that sexist and discriminatory?

McCoskrie argued clearly and logically and stuck to the central issues. Latta was patronising and drew in double negatives all the time. He argued that inequality and discrimination is bad; but was unable to answer Bob’s point, ‘why is your (Latta’s) discrimination against threesomes getting married ok?’ Good point which Latta brushed off with a throw away about cats.

This video shows how some in the liberal world patronize and mock conservatives who are simply arguing to maintain what has always been accepted in law and culture.

And why does the media continually insist on the misnomer “Marriage Equality Bill” which is the semantics of the pro-bill lobby? Kinda unbalanced and lacking in objectivity. It’s called the “Redefinition of Marriage Bill.” It has nothing to do with equality. Vegans can’t marry as vegans, Morris Dancers can’t marry as morris dancers, they are unequal and discriminated against too, if you accept that logic. Gay people are as entitled to get married as any one else, just not to someone of the same gender, in the same way that a non-gay man can’t marry his daughter, grandmother, or a second wife.

About coNZervative

A blog about politics, life, culture, literature, music and thought from Christchurch, New Zealand [NZ] (the home of 10,000 earthquakes since 4 Sept. 2010) built because of the bullying and cajoling of Liberal opinion-makers (journalism and Hollywood) against conservative-minded people who are as entitled to opinion and a perspective as anyone; and because Conservativism has served the world well. John Stringer is a New Zealander (Christchurch) in his 40s married to an American from Taco Bell; they have 5 adult children in 3 diff. countries. John is an ex-Anglican pastor, a teacher, published author (NZ), novelist (USA) and cartoonist (Aust, NZ), and has spent the last 25 years in NZ politics with the National party (he was a parliamentary candidate in 1999). There was a stint in London working for the British Conservative party as well, where he did media minding and campaign work with several Brit cabinet ministers, including Baroness Thatcher, Baroness Blatch, Michael Howard, Tom King, among others. He has an MA (classical studies, Victoria); is a graduate of the New York Film Academy; and has various awards for writing. His passions include British bulldogs, fly fishing, and history (Ancient and WWII). Winston Churchill was mainly a “Conservative” but also a “Liberal” MP between 1900-1964. A Member of Parliament for 64 years, he contested 21 parliamentary elections (for Oldham, Manchester North West, Dundee, and Epping/Woodford). Throughout his career Churchill stood for liberty. He believed in open debate and freedom of speech, and opposed any system or ideology that tried to dictate the way one should think. Churchill felt deeply that disagreements within the democratic system should not degenerate into personal animosities. Hi John

Thanks for ‘vocalizing’ my thoughts of this morning while watching the debate. You’ll no doubt have realized that there are some typo’s which to my thinking detract from the well written analysis. I’d like to repost it on my blog, if I may?

    Thanks again

    100% agree with you John.

Nigel Latta will be embarrassed by his unprofessional performance, face pulling and totally illogical arguements. All the while Bob McCosgrie was cool, clam, sensible and to the point.

Latta got “owned” when Bob asked him why he was discriminating against threesomes.

    Yip Latta will be embarrassed.

    • Dan says:

Vegans can actually marry as long as they are opposite sex ? That is a poor comparison as veganism has nothing to do with human sexuallity and attraction. No one tells vegans they can’t marry.and for polygamy, its again a different thing, gay marriage would be between two people, which is the same as a normal marriage two people of the opposite sex, its different from polygamy because its the same thing as straight marriage just they are not allowed because of there sex, its like not letting blacks marry whites.

      • coNZervative says:

That’s the point Dan. Who says the rule is sexuality and attraction? Veganism has an equally valid claim. Marriage is decided on gender, not sexuality.
