The mystery of the massive eyeball that washed up on a beach in Florida is solved. No, it wasn’t Sauron’s, or that of a giant squid. The marine biology website Deep Sea News has confirmed it to be most likely that of a marlin.
These great deep water predator fish, among the fastest in the world, can grow up to five metres long. Biology professor Sonke Johnsen said folks often underestimate the size of swordfish eyes. The bones around the eye ruled it out as that of a giant squid. It would need a massive iPad.
